My Comrade (www.mycomrade.com),
“the revolutionary gay magazine,” has been sharing its
quirky outlook on life for almost two decades. As a kind of Vanity
Fair/Mad/Art Forum for the gay fringe, the publication revels
in outrageous camp, witty social satire, innovative graphic design
and celebratory coverage of gender-bending bohemia. Each issue features
writing and artwork by an ever-changing cadre of established and
upcoming talent. At the helm are its publisher, New York journalist
Les Simpson, and his alter ego, drag queen Linda Simpson, who serves
as editor.
My Comrade has had two lives. Its first reign was from
1987 to 1994. In 2004, the magazine was born again with a slick
makeover. The most recent issue was released in April 2006; among
the contributors are novelist Bruce Benderson and humorist Mike
Albo.
Interview magazine has hailed My Comrade as “a leading
purveyor of avant-garde gay and lesbian humor.”
